Katie drove Mo and me to Killington, Vermont last Thursday night in a Zipcar. We stayed with Katie's parents, Lynn and Bobby, in the guest bedroom of their Killington ski lodge—the free housing they get as part of Lynn's job as a traveling nurse. [Previous c.f. post about Lynn's awesome traveling nurse job.]
Here's a picture of L & B's gratis nurses' housing, as seen from a local overlook called Deer Leap:

Here's a zoomed-in view of the same photograph:

Here's a picture of Deer Leep overlook as seen from Lynn & Bobby's parking lot:

To get to Deer Leap overlook we had to walk about three miles up a fairly steep trail. To get to the trail from Lynn & Bobby's place, we walked along the highway for about a quarter mile:

On the way to the trailhead we ran into a guy selling flowers on the highway shoulder:

Here's the trail entrance, just off the side of the highway. Parts of the 3-mile (or so) path we walked overlaps in places with two much longer hiking trails: the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail.

I shot this picture while Katie was writing our names in the trail's logbook (a latently morbid document in which all trail users are asked to write their name, phone number, and hiking destination, in case of personal/national emergency):

Here are some good pictures of Katie from when we were hanging out on top of Deer Leap:

Katie's mom isn't in any of these pictures because she's a night nurse. While the three of us hiked and messed around last Friday morning, Katie's mom slept.

I like how the road-sign arrow in the parking-lot photo is pointing obliquely at Bobby -- or perhaps at whatever Bobby is gazing obliquely off-camera at.

Our first concern when we saw these pictures was, "Who is the lumberjack on holiday that Katie is walking around with? And should she follow him into the woods?" We love our Robert!! By the way, those are the only clothes I've seen him wear in a year.
