John Turturro: Still a badass
File with swashbuckling flourishes under "The show must go on."
After 73-year-old stage legend Zoe Caldwell (below) accidentally fell during Sunday night's performance of A Spanish Play, John Turturro (the play's director) stepped in and finished for Caldwell, who plays an elderly actress rehearsing the role of an optimistic widow. Donning the frilly neckpiece you see in the first picture below (but not the red suit), Turturro added another layer of meta to his already metatheatrical production. Wow. It must have been a real treat to have been in that audience! Caldwell, who was thankfully not seriously injured, reclaims the role tonight at Classic Stage Company (136 E 13th St, NYC).

I read Zoe's memoir, it was fascinating.
