hi! i just read this tiny news about how the MTA is required to find new apartments for residents dislocated by the theoretical construction of the 2nd Avenue Subway.
recently, i've been filling some shifts at the library ~23rd & 3rd, and have 98% verified my conclusion that people who live east of 3rd Ave btwn 14th-59th (prolly beyond?) are insane/pathetic/bizarre.
"We are obligated to relocate most of these tenants – in fact all of the tenants,” said MTA Director of Real Estate Roco Krsulic. “We have to find them replacement housing. The rules are rather specific, that we have to find them comparable housing, and preferably in the same community board."
But that won't be easy, especially in the case of rent-stabilized apartments.
“This is a pretty nice area. Rent's pretty cheap, actually, for what I've got,” said David Burks, one of the tenants who will have to be relocated. “So I'm curious what they're gonna find. I've got a nice-sized space. I don't know how well they're gonna match it up."
