Brian Eno's foreshadowing fork

U2's website is heavily promoting this okay new song, but I keep listening to this nice old non-U2 song instead.

Compared to Brian Eno & Daniel Lanois's hearty lunchtime rendition of "You Don't Miss Your Water (Till Your Well Runs Dry)", Bono et al's "Get On Your Boots" sounds pretty aimless, immature, and stupid (in a bad way).

Thanks to the U2 website, I've involuntarily conjured a mental image of Brian Eno sticking that fork — the one he casually wields in the linked video — into U2's well-done rump.

But hey, I'm a U2 fan. I truly hope (against hope, now) that some of these new U2 songs are good.

"Post-its to Obama" in last Sunday's San Francisco Chronicle

old-timey Holidaze cocktail recipe

it's the kinda mournful sunday night of a calendrically-generous holiday festive period. tomorrow is the (my) first work day of the 2009, the first year of the New Depression! i did some academic speed, accomplished great things, and now need to "wind down"!

so i adapted an old-timey drink which, holidaze help us, was constructed from ingredients which were somehow currently cluttering up my place.

Sunday Night Holidaze Sazerac

3oz apricot brandy [or tasteful, available eau de vie]
4 vigorous jiggles Peychaud's Bitters
1 generous and hopefully-dissolvable spooge of agave nectar
coupla cubes of frozen water

assemble in order and manner of your chosing. the one i'm sipping right now looks like a waifishly-uncarbonated diet cherry 7-Up you wouldn't take home to Mom (in fact, Variant #1: include splash of Cherry 7-Up)
